Normally, Jason Holder is a calm and composed character - a trait that has made him a statesman in the Windies line-up. However, he traded that for instant success and despite Rahkeem Cornwall asking him not to go for a review, he didn’t listen to it, only to be left embarrassed by the replay.

Bowlers get carried away and often insist on the skipper go for reviews more often than not but it is always imperative, or rather paramount to ask them for their suggestions. It helps. Today, Holder left to rue to a reckless DRS call that he made, without even asking the bowler for once, which could have helped the team save a review.

On the third ball of the 21st over, the big Antiguan bowled a delivery in the middle and off and the huge amount of spin that he extracted off the surface beat Virat Kohli when the latter was going for a flick. After the ball was hit on the pads, entire Windies close-in fielder unit rose to appeal, with the bowler being the loudest among the lot. Although his appeal looked convincing, his change in body language suggested only one thing that he was doing what a bowler was supposed to - putting pressure on the umpire with sheer loudness. However, Richard Kettlebrough was too experienced an umpire to get under pressure, and he looked away from them, with the sign of disapproval.

While Cornwall was somehow sure that the ball would miss the leg-stumps, the skipper didn’t consult with him at all and after checking with short-leg fielder - for some weird reasons as he was in the worst position to have any kind of understanding of the angle - he went for the review instantly. Cornwall was visibly disappointed with the skipper’s decision. What came on the replay was enough to put the team to shame as there was nothing on UltraEdge and although the impact was in line, it was missing the leg stump by a huge margin. Windies lost their first review, leaving Holder embarrassed.
