In what summed up England's tour of New Zealand, Joe Denly, on Monday, came up with the contender for the worst drop of all time. Archer, who out-foxed Williamson, started celebrating prematurely, but was left embarrassed after Joe Denly dropped an absolute sitter to hand Williamson a life.

England, who looked out before the second day of the second Test, were handed a reprieve when skipper Joe Root and Ollie Pope combined for a 193-run partnership. However, England could not convert their chances later on with the ball after restricting the Kiwi top order to 28/2 at the end of the 9th over in the innings.

One incident that summed up England’s Test series against New Zealand occurred in the Jofra Archer over. In the 49th over of New Zealand's second innings, when the duo of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor were batting well at the crease, Archer had other plans. The right-arm quick immediately surprised Williamson when he changed his action, bowling a knuckleball in the process.

Williamson, who was batting well at 62 in the innings, was caught off-guard and was surprised by the Archer knuckleball, flicking the delivery straight into the hands of Joe Denly. It was an absolute shocker of a shot from the New Zealand skipper, but not more shocking than Denly’s drop at short-midwicket. Denly was caught holding his hands together and pointing towards the ball as he grassed a sitter to give the Kiwi skipper a reprieve.

What was more interesting was Archer’s reaction to the sitter, when he could have absolutely had a go at Denly for dropping a dolly. Archer was left shocked, stunned and surprised by the drop and instead held his hands covering his face as he laughed for a whole minute. He was also subsequently left embarrassed as he started celebrating prematurely even before Denly had caught the ball. Well, this moment summed up England's tour of New Zealand, I suppose.

Here's how Twitter reacted to the incident:
