There is interference form administration in selection process in the HCA, states Vijay Mohan Raj
Former Ranji player Vijay Mohan Raj has revealed that the selection process in the HCA isnāt accountable which has led to a drastic fall in Hyderabad's performance in the Ranji trophy. Raj has pointed out that such unjust practices demotivate young players from taking up cricket as their career.
Itās been 32 long years since Hyderabad bagged their second and last Ranji Trophy title while the team reached the finals only once in the meantime. Former Ranji Trophy winner Vijay Mohan Raj has revealed that lack of accountability in the selection process of the Hyderabad Cricket Association has been the reason for such a fall in the standard of teamās performance.Ā The former Hyderabad and Bombay player has accused the private academies of manipulating selectors and administrators as a reason for the same.
"The entire selection process is devoid of accountability. It is very easy for a set of persons who are selectors to manipulate the system or be manipulated," Raj told TOI.
"Unfortunately, as (Ambati) Rayudu has stated, there is interference from the administration. This has been happening for many decades. To make things worse, former players have been at the helm of affairs but they have not been able to control this menace as they are dependent on the club secretaries to stay in power.
"We were given to understand that we will be selecting the team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy too. So, we had done our homework and were keen to make a few changes from the Vijay Hazare Trophy team but to our utter surprise the administrators announced a new selection panel just a day before the team was supposed to be announced," Raj lamented.
While Raj urged the senior players to raise their voices against the unjust practices but the two-time Ranji-winning player also acknowledged that not many would be comfortable to confront the administration.
"It is high time that we arrest the slide. Senior players need to come forward and debate on how we are going to move forward. Well, this also may not be successful as players do not wish to oppose the administrators as they may lose lucrative money-making opportunities to be appointed as coaches, selectors etc," he concluded.
