Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is in talks to buy some stake at the Delhi Capitals and become a co-owner of the IPL franchise. 50% stake of the Delhi Capitals is with the GMR group while rest is owned by JSW sports and Gambhir is willing to buy 10% stake which is about INR 100 crore.

Former Delhi opener Gautam Gambhir may soon become a co-owner of Delhi Capitals after the southpaw has been in talks with the GMR group over the past couple of months about owning 10% stake of the IPL franchise. Gambhir had captained the Delhi Daredevils and later was sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders where he had successful seven seasons as a skipper only to return to Delhi for his final season in IPL 2018. Gambhir could be an owner of 10% stake of the Delhi Capitals which is valued to about INR 100 crores,

Sources close to the TOI have said that they are waiting for the clearance from the IPL Governing Council and negotiations have been good and soon Gambhir will be announced as a co-owner. JSW sports, last year bought 50% stake of the Delhi-based franchise and changed its name to Delhi Capitals, transforming it from a team that languished at the bottom of the league to a team that finished third last season.

ā€œThe matter has been discussed for the last few months and it is only a matter of days,ā€ a source said to the TOI. Sources have confirmed that the official statement from the franchise will be out only after the agreement will be signed by Gambhir.

Gambhir returned to Delhi 2018 with a view to winning the IPL title for Delhi and being a local boy he was very motivated about it. However, things did not go according to plan as he dropped himself halfway through the tournament due to poor form and Shreyas Iyer was named as the skipper of the franchise and Gambhir later announced his retirement from all formats before the commencement of the next edition of IPL.
