The Supreme Court of India has decided to hear the application of the BCCI in order to alter the tenure of office bearers and the cooling off period in January 2020. The SC in their last hearing in October had passed directions to immunise the decisions taken by the CoA during its tenure.
The end of the tenure of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) has made way for a new set of office-bearers of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) who are looking forward to reinstating the lost glory of the governing body. Let it be the introduction of contracts for first class players or the D/N Test match or A tours for women, the governing body is steadily working towards developing the standard of the game and its infrastructure in the nation.
Taking one more step forward, the BCCI has approached the Supreme Court (SC), as per reports of Sportstar, to gain permission to alter some administrative reforms suggested by the Justice RM Lodha Committee to facilitate the growth of the sport in the nation. The SC has decided to schedule the hearings in January 2020.
A bench led by chief justice S. A. Bobde acceded to an oral request made by solicitor general Tushar Mehta to “list the main matter along with all connected interlocutory applications in January 2020 before the appropriate bench."
The governing body led by president Sourav Ganguly plans to lengthen the tenure and cooling off period of the office bearers so as to utilise their experience for the betterment and increasing the efficiency of the administration.
In its last hearing in October, while the SC directed the CoA to step down after the election of the new office bearers, it also passed a slew of directions to protect the decisions taken by the outgoing CoA during its tenure. The directions were meant to keep the board at bay from future legal hassles.
