Hardik Pandya announced that he will make a comeback to the Indian national team midway into the New Zealand series after being ruled out for over 3 months. The all-rounder was last seen in the T20I series against South Africa before he injured his back, requiring a surgery with rehabilitation.
Hardik Pandya announced that he will make a comeback to the national team midway into the New Zealand series. The all-rounder, who last played in India’s T20I series draw against South Africa, injured his back and required surgery.
Following a successful surgery and having completed his rehabilitation the all-rounder is slowly stepping his way back into cricket. The injuries did not pull the all-rounder’s confidence, as he commented that injuries are part and parcel of an athlete’s life.Â
"I was managing the back, tried everything possible not to get into surgery or anything. After trying everything, we came to the conclusion that it wasn't working. I noticed that I was not able to give my 100 per cent and that meant I was not doing justice to myself and the team. That is when I decided to go for the surgery,” said Pandya as reported by IANS.Â
Further, the all-rounder explained why he decided to do the surgery a year ahead of the World Cup. It would give Pandya the time to make his way back into the national team starting with the New Zealand series before he returns to Mumbai Indians for the IPL.Â
"We thought this was the right time because even if I take four months, I will be coming back before the New Zealand series, mid-way actually. That was the plan that I play some international games, the IPL and then the World T20. The biggest concern was the World T20 which touch wood is now in place."
Pandya concluded by saying that the surgery would only make him a better cricketer, and the only desire for the all-rounder is to lift the T20 World Cup in Australia.Â
“I want to win the World T20 and that is the plan. Have come close to it many times -- the Champions Trophy in 2017 and sadly missed the 2019 World Cup. Our game might suit Australia. I wish to help the team get the trophy,” he concluded.Â
