National Cricket Academy’s Chief Operations Officer Toofan Ghosh has become the second high-profile BCCI executive to put in his papers after finance head Santosh Rangnekar. While Rangnekar resigned citing personal reasons, it is understood that Ghosh’s position had been under pressure.

Given his general lack of knowledge about cricket administration and his trip to Australia gain “knowledge” about BCCI’s new Centre of Excellence being questioned by many, Ghosh’s position had become untenable in recent months. Though Ghosh himself refused to comment on the development when contacted, a senior BCCI official confirmed that he had indeed mailed his resignation to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri.

“Ghosh has put in his papers and mailed it to Rahul. He has cited personal reasons for quitting. I can confirm that there was no pressure on him and it was a personal decision,” the senior BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

“He overstepped his brief during that meeting with the office-bearers when all they wanted to know was specific issues,” the source said.

Whether the BCCI will appoint a new COO or revive the old NCA sub-committee structure is yet to be seen.

“Rahul Dravid is Director (Cricket) and there is a robust coaching structure in place. So that part is taken care of. As for the new NCA project, the sub-committee could be revived just like it was before COA took charge,” the source added.
