BBL may lack the quality of the IPL, but it still produces some memorable moments on a daily basis. Today, Josh Lalor took the 4th hat-trick in BBL history, but not a single player on the field realized it, and Adam Gilchrist, who was commentating, had to intervene to let Heat players know about it.

Brisbane Heat’s left-arm speedster Josh Lalor dismissed Andrew Tye with the last ball of the 18th over of the innings to allow Jack Prestwidge to bowl the 19th over of the innings in which the latter conceded only nine runs. Lalor was in charge of bowling the last over with Matt Kelly being on strike for Perth Scorchers.

The last over started exactly how Lalor would have wanted it to as he dismissed Matt Kelly with a short of good length delivery but the change of ends brought Nick Hobson to strike. Hobson, who was striking superbly till then, had to be outwitted and Lalor did just that as the Heat pacer bowled a slower ball outside off. The ball moved a bit in the air to take a top-edge off Hobson’s bat and James Peirson safely completed the catch to ensure the fourth hat-trick of BBL history went to Lalor’s name.

However, to everyone’s surprise, no one, including Lalor, seemed to be interested in what had just happened at the Gabba. Lalor simply went back to his run-up and was having a mini conversation with Chris Lynn when Alex Ross heard the ground announcer giving Lalor a round of applause for the hat-trick.

He instantly ran towards Lalor to congratulate the pacer on his achievement and outwitted quickly realized that even Lalor was oblivious to the fact of what he had just done. However, it wasn't the bowler who provided the best reaction to the news but that honour fell to James Pierson. The wicketkeeper, who was mic'd up during the innings, was literally left stunned when Adam Gilchrist, on the Fox commentary team, told him about the same. After the news hit him, all Pierson could manage was, 'Was that a hat-trick? You're kidding" and followed that up with, ''We thought this was the hat-trick ball now.''
