Vidarbha impressed with the ball on the second day of the final in this year’s Ranji Trophy as they dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara, strangely by a spinner, before he could do any serious damage. The defending champions restricted Saurashtra to 158/5 who now trail the hosts by 154 runs.

Brief scores: Saurashtra 158/5 ( Snell Patel 87, Vishvaraj Jadeja 18; Aditya Sarwate 3/55, Akshay Wakhare 2/42)

Vidarbha looked in complete control of the ongoing Ranji Trophy final against Saurashtra as they managed to restrict the visitors to 158/5 at the end of day two on Monday. Big credit for that goes to Aditya Sarwate who got the most important wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara as he managed to score one run from 11 deliveries in Nagpur.

The defending champions put up a strong bowling display, but it wasn’t Umesh Yadav who picked up any of the wickets, rather it was youngsters Aditya Sarwate and Akshay Wakhare who stepped up in the final. While Sarwate claimed three, Wakhare picked up two wickets to put added pressure on their opponents.

The top order batsmen in the Saurashtra batting line-up, barring Snell Patel, had a bad outing on day two of the final as they succumbed to pressure from Faiz Fazal & Co. Patel scored a fighting 87* and remained unbeaten at the end of the day's play. The likes of Pujara and the highly rated Sheldon Jackson were sent back to the pavilion before they could even get to double figures. With Prerak Mankad at the other end, Patel will be faced with a mammoth task ahead of him in as they trail Vidarbha by 154 runs.
