England all-rounder Moeen Ali wants officials to turn up the volume of stump mics in order to curb sledging amongst opposition players in the near future. However, Three Lions’ coach Trevor Bayliss has a different opinion on the same as he wants to reduce the volume of mics to protect players.

Last month it was Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed who suffered the wrath of the on-field stump pic after he was caught hurling racist and sexist chants towards South African all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo in the second ODI at Durban. This week it was Windies’ pacer Shannon Gabriel who insulted England’s Joe Root using homophobic remarks in the Test match at St. Lucia. Both players were handed significant bans from the International Cricket Council as the international body looks to crack down on sledging in the sport of cricket.

England all-rounder, Moeen Ali, was happy about whatever’s happened since the introduction of the on-field mic. In fact, the British cricketer wants officials to turn up the volume of the stump mic in order to further reduce sledging during international matches.

"It's time for people to behave themselves. Turn the stump mics up. Why turn them down? So people can swear? There is no reason to get personal. It's the way society is: things come out of people's mouths. You're not going to get away with it now. You have to be careful," Moeen said before flying to West Indies for the five-match ODI series beginning at Bridgetown on Wednesday.

However, Ali’s coach and Three Lions’ coach Trevor Bayliss has different views on the use of the stump mic in competitive cricket. Bayliss believes that the the volume of these microphones should be turned down in order to protect players.

"I've said it once before, no I'm not in favour of it and I'm not going to change my mind. I think (stump mics) should be down. I know there are people who think the opposite and think it is good for the game but sometimes in the heat of battle things are said, when guys given a bit of time to sit down and think about it would give themselves a bit of a kick up the backside," Bayliss was quoted as saying by Reuters.
