Shane Warne denies rumors of calling for BCCI ban on Ricky Ponting to coach in IPL 2019
Shane Warne squashes rumours that he had asked BCCI to ban Ricky Ponting from coaching Delhi Capitals for IPL 2019 after the latter was appointed as assistant coach of Australia. Earlier, Rahul Dravid was asked to step down as Delhi Daredevils coach in 2017 due to a conflict of interest.
Legendary wrist spinner, Shane Warne has rubbished rumors that he had an issue with former teammate and Australian batting great Ricky Ponting taking up a coaching role with Indian Premier League franchise - Delhi Capitals. The 49-year old cricketer-turned-commentator took to theĀ popular social media site, Twitter, to clarify any false information surrounding the topic at hand. In the Tweet, Warne said he had opined that it would be "silly" to not allow Ponting coach the Delhi Capitals in IPL 12.

Ponting was recently appointed as assistant coach of the Australian cricket team as Justin Langer & Co. look to build a strong team for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup in England & Wales. While India coach, Ravi Shastri, was denied permission to coach an IPL franchise, things were unclear if Poting would assume the coaching role with the Delhi Capitals whom he was in charge of last season.
Earlier, BCCI had made it mandatory for support staff working with India and India A teams to refrain from picking up coaching roles with IPL teams. Current India āAā and U-19 coach, Rahul Dravid, was asked to step down as Delhi Daredevils coach in 2017 since it was deemed it would be in conflict of interest due to his position with the national teams.
