Ashish Nehra believes that the way KL Rahul batted in the first T20I in Vizag, it was bound to glad the team management and was the biggest positive from the game. The former India pacer has also added that the opener could have carried on for a bit longer so as to guide the team past 150 runs.

Rahul’s innings had literally everything that one would expect from him. His failed judgement against the induckers, some brilliant drives on the up, and coupled with the struggle against the short balls made sure that the drama was never out of place. However, his 50 was the basis on which India stood at a decent position after the first innings and Nehra is glad that it happened.

“Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri rested Shikhar Dhawan hoping KL Rahul to come good. That is what exactly KL Rahul did. It was a good half-century. Definitely, KL Rahul would have disappointed at that time because India needed him to carry on and cross 150 runs on the board,” he said while speaking to CricketNext.

The last few months were not easy for Rahul as he had to fight a lot of on-field and off-field struggle to be back into the team. After losing his place in the Test XI in Australia, his appearance on Koffee With Karan created such a big controversy that the BCCI had to temporarily suspend him. On his return, he scored a fifty on Sunday and Nehra stated that the innings would be glad for him after all the struggles.

“But, the way his form in the recent months, he would take that. For me, It was the most positive point for me in this game. Because, it was a low-scoring game, in which, batsman found it tough to get their runs on the board,” Nehra further said.
