Despite the availability of DRS today, most batsmen are seen waiting at the crease until the umpire raises his finger regardless of them knowing that they are out. DâArcy Short, however, failed to get this act together and started walking away before realizing that the umpire hadnât given him out.
The Big Bash League is in full flow with Hobart Hurricanes look to be in getting things right as they top the table after 23 matches. However, the team had to endure their first defeat of the season after 10 games on Monday as Melbourne Renegades won the match by six wickets with four balls remaining.
Nothing went Hurricanesâ way and Dâ Arcy Shortâs dismissal earlier in the game was a sign of things to come. The Hurricanes lost Mathew Wade and Alex Doolan in just eleven runs within two overs. While the fans were still hoping for some big hits by Short, who opened alongside Wade, his dismissal turned out to be their biggest dampener.
Short was struggling to score, managing just two of his first five balls he had faced when he was caught and bowled by Usman Khan. It looked like the clearest of dismissals as Khanâs bouncer was right at Shortâs throat. Short had taken his eye off to fend it away and the ball hit his gloves before lobbing into Khanâs hands.
Short started walking but the umpire shook his head first. Dan Christain was appalled at the decision and signalled the umpire that Short had actually started walking. By that time, Short had noticed he wasnât given out yet and stood on his tracks. But, the umpire then decided to go with the batsmanâs act and raised his finger.

The Hurricanes could eventually post a target of 146 which the Renegades chased easily.
