Simon Katich has stated that on previous tours, Indian pacers had not been able to succeed but this time around they showed a lot of patience which perhaps made a big difference between the two teams. The Indian pacers were in prime form all throughout last calendar year, be it home or away.

The Indian pacers have been in exceptional form all throughout the last calendar year, be it in India or otherwise. They have proved that they can take wickets in any condition - be it India or abroad. As recent as in the Border-Gavaskar series, the Pacers have put in a stupendous performance which has impressed the former Australian cricketer Simon Katich who termed the consistency and patience shown by the Indian fast-bowlers as a key difference in the two teams.

“On previous tours, they (pacers) haven’t been doing well in these conditions. But in this series, this pace attack was magnificent and they built scoreboard pressure. They have got pace and variety, and they were also able to move the ball. Perhaps that has been the big difference in the two teams,” Katich said, reported PTI.

“India’s bowlers were really patient and Australia’s batsmen haven’t been patient enough to withstand that pressure. And very good spinners backed up the pacers, whether it was R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav or Ravindra Jadeja,” he said.

The hosts Australia lost the series 1-2 and Katich assessed that too much aggression shown by the Australian batsmen was also one of the main reasons for the downfall of the hosts.

“When Australia look back at the series, they will see they have got out trying to be too aggressive. They didn’t show the right shot selection or right temperament at the right time in any Test match. There was too much one-tempo batting, rather than going with ebbs and flows while respecting the opposition bowling.” Katich said that the Indian attack is rounded well to continue doing so in overseas.

Katich also went on to praise the lead Indian wicket-taker in the series Jasprit Bumrah who got 21 scalps at an average of 17. Stating that he is still at the initial stage of his Test career and only get better from here onwards.

“It should be (a stepping stone for India and its bowling attack). Jasprit Bumrah has only just started his Test career and he has been outstanding. He has plenty of improvement in him because he has just started playing his cricket in the last 12 months. Then you look at Mohammed Shami – he has been brilliant and Ishant Sharma’s played his role nicely in the series.

“They have still got Bhuvneshwar Kumar who hasn’t played but he is a very good bowler and obviously a couple other youngsters in the pipeline coming through. Khaleel Ahmed has been around ODIs and T20Is.”

Katich also expressed his opinion on the Indian ODI side’s spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. And stated that the two spinners are a huge asset for the Indian team and will be an advantage for them going into the World Cup.

“Those two spinners, in particular, have made a difference to the Indian ODI team. They have been outstanding in taking wickets and in their strike rates as well. That’s a big advantage India has going into the World Cup, having two world-class spinners who can spin both ways and do damage in the middle. India is well set for a good World Cup.”
