VIDEO | 'Clueless' Jason Sangha positions himself for catch only to see ball falling 30 metres away

Like all sport, Cricket too, demands focus, making it difficult for fielders to retain it as they keep waiting entire innings for few moments of action. Jason Sangha further had BBL’s carnival-like ambience to compound his misery as he couldn’t see the ball in air till it dropped 30 meters from him.

T20 cricket was just thought to be just another format of the game until the Indian Premier League came onto the scene showing that it can be a celebration, a festival, and even a night-out for fans. Although the IPL still remains the biggest T20 league, BBL has created a sense of aura and is one of the most anticipated events of the year for the Aussies.

The ambience is as hyped for the spectators as it is for the players and it is very easy to get swayed away despite all the expectations of focus and professionalism from everyone. Young Jason Sangha was the one to falter this time as the 19-year-old was seen running and taking his position for a catch when the ball was falling nowhere near him.

Chasing a target of 169 runs posted by Sydney Thunders, the Adelaide Strikers were all over the place with a horrible batting collapse. After an in-form looking Colin Ingram was dismissed after his knock of 30-ball-48, the emerging Rashid Khan was Strikers’ only remaining hope. However, facing Chris Jordan’s full-length ball, Khan whipped the ball towards mid-wicket with a helicopter shot.

It lacked power and timing and was destined for an easy catch when the frivolous thing happened. Sangha was pursuing the catch and the camera caught him taking his position with his hands in place to take it. However, the ball was around 30 meters away from him as Jordan was seen waving from far signalling that he was nowhere near the ball. Strikers took two runs in the process and while Sangha’s teammates were confused, the commentators inside the box were in splits.
