The BCCI left Sunil Gavaskar stranded as they failed to inform the former cricketer about the last minute cancellation of an event to unveil India’s away jersey ahead of the clash against England. Earlier, Virat Kohli had already unveiled the jersey at the pre-match press conference.

The legendary Indian batsman was invited over to Edgbaston on Sunday, by the BCCI. Apparently, there was a small ceremony set up to unveil Team India’s orange away jersey for the clash against England.

The event scheduled to be held on Sunday morning was planned to include four Indian captains. Gavaskar, a former captain, was supposed to pass on the jersey to one of his successors Sourav Ganguly, who would then pass it on to Dhoni. The wicketkeeper-batsman was scheduled to hand it over to current skipper, Virat Kohli. However, the event was cancelled in the last minute by the BCCI and the telecasters, Star Sports.

“Virat had already unveiled the jersey in the Team India press conference yesterday, plus there was an ICC-Unicef event before the match. So we decided to do away with our event,” a top BCCI official told TOI.

The official, however, refused to answer why Gavaskar was not informed about the cancellation. Instead, he merely said that the Team India jersey for this match was planned well in advance.
