Hima Das clinches gold medal at Poznan Athletics Grand Prix

Indian athlete Hima Das clocked 23.65s to clinch the gold medal in the women’s 200m event at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on Tuesday. Meanwhile, teammate V.K. Vismaya pipped Poland’s Iga Baumgart-Witan to finish third with her personal best timing of 23.75s in Europe.

2018 Asian Games gold medalist Hima Das managed to overcome her sustained back issues and win gold in the women’s 200m event at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on Tuesday. Das, who has a personal best of 23.10s, was participating in her first 200m race of the season.

The Assam athlete clocked a timing of 23.65s in the final to win gold and was joined with compatriot V.K. Vismaya, who finished third ahead of local favourite Iga Baumgart-Witan with a timing of 23.75s, on the podium. Vismaya had clocked a personal best in the 400m a few days ago.

Meanwhile, Asian champion Tajinder Pal Singh Toor, who holds the national record from the Asian Games last year at 20.75m, won the men’s shot put bronze with a best effort of 19.62m. In addition to that, Muhammed Anas, the 400m national record holder, was third in the men’s 200m race with a timing of 20.75 seconds while KS Jeevan won the men’s 400m bronze in 47.25s.
