Jimmy Neesham took to Twitter to urge the Indian fans, who had bought tickets for the World Cup final on Sunday, to resell them to the ones in need in case they don’t plan to use the tickets themselves. New Zealand, who take on hosts England at Lord’s, will need all the support they can get.

Thousands of Indian fans had, in advance, bought tickets for the World Cup title clash on Sunday, hoping that the Men in Blue would make it. However, a spirited Kiwi side beat the Indians by 18 runs to earn the right to play the final. The hosts, England, hammered the Aussies on the very next day at Edgbaston to join the Blackcaps in the final. 

This means that the Indian fans can either choose to watch the final anyway, supporting England or New Zealand, skip it, or resell the tickets to the Kiwi or English fans. The New Zealand all-rounder Neesham wrote on Twitter urging the Indian fans to play fair. 

“Dear Indian cricket fans. If you don’t want to come to the final anymore then please be kind and resell your tickets via the official platform. I know it’s tempting to try to make a large profit but please give all genuine cricket fans a chance to go, not just the wealthy,” Neesham tweeted on Saturday, reported IANS.

Recently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) came out with a ‘return policy’ wherein fans can get a full refund if they return their tickets. A senior ICC official said that this was a little effort on the part of the international body to counter the nemesis of black marketing of match tickets, especially in the knockout games.

After their win over India Blackcaps skipper Kane Williamson said he hopes the Indian fans are not too angry. Instead, he called on them to get behind his team, who are tagged as underdogs going into the final against the hosts who will be well supported in the stands.

“I hope they’re not too angry. Obviously, the passion for the game in India is unrivalled and we are all fortunate to play this sport and have a country like India be right behind it. But hopefully, we can adopt 1.5 billion supporters and they’ll be supporting us,” Williamson had said at the post-match press conference.
