Jacques Kallis has stepped down from his role as coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders outfit as per an official statement from the former South Africa all-rounder. Kallis has been part of the KKR family since 2011, first as a player and then as a coach, spending a time span of nine years in Kolkata.

Jacques Kallis has officially resigned as the head coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, along with Australia’s Simon Katich who gave up his role as batting coach. This meant that the KKR outfit will play the next season of IPL with a new coaching and support staff.

Kallis, who was appointed as the head coach of KKR after the 2015 edition of the IPL, ended a nine-year-old association with the Kolkata-based franchise having featured for the team since 2011.

“After nine fantastic years with KKR since 2011, as a player, mentor and Head Coach, it’s time to explore new opportunities. I would like to thank the owners, management and fellow players for many happy memories,” Kallis was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Meanwhile, Katich was appointed the batting coach of KKR just before the 2016 IPL. The former Australian was roped in after his successful season with CPL franchise Trinbago Knight Riders.

“Jacques Kallis has been an integral part of the KKR family and will always remain so. We will be exploring ways of working with Jacques as we pursue our vision of establishing the Knight Riders brand as a global brand,” KKR CEO Venky Mysore was quoted as saying in a press release.
