Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his disappointment with the BCCI for not giving the final match tickets to Gundappa Vishwanath. The legendary cricketer also urged to the Board to invite the former greats like Kapil Dev and Yuvraj Singh among others to World Cup finals, to honour their contributions.

Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator Sunil Gavaskar has stated he was incorrectly assured by a Board official that Gundappa Viswanath would be provided two tickets for the World Cup final between England and New Zealand on Sunday at Lord’s.

"Someone in the BCCI promised me two tickets for Viswanath for the final, but he isn't even picking up his phone now. I'm extremely disappointed with the BCCI about this," Gavaskar told TOI.

Gavaskar also added that the Board should honour the contributions of Indian greats, who have played done well for the game during their playing days. Kapil Dev was the World Cup winning captain in the 1983 tournament while Yuvraj Singh was the man of the tournament in 2011 edition. Gavaskar insisted that BCCI should invite these legends to watch World Cup final and in a way honour their contributions.

“I'm sure the Board has bought a couple of boxes here at Lord's thinking that India would make the final. According to me, the BCCI must invite former players like 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, and Mohinder Amarnath and Yuvraj Singh, who won the Man of the tournament awards in India's 1983 and 2011 World Cup triumph, to watch a World Cup final. All these former players have played a huge hand in India winning the World Cup on previous occasions, and deserve to be respected. The BCCI has the resources to do this. You can even invite the greats of other sports like Prakash Padukone and Milkha Singh," he added.
