Sachin Tendulkar has named Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah as the standout performers for the team in the 2019 World Cup. While the Indian vice captain topped the run charts with 648 runs, Bumrah was India's highest wicket taker, claiming 18 wickets in just nine matches.

Despite having a disappointing end to their World Cup campaign after their stunning loss to the Kiwis in the semi-final, team India still had plenty of positives to take away from the World Cup, and none more than the performances of their two star men - Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit became the first batsman in history to score five centuries in one edition of the World Cup, while Bumrah, on the other hand, tormented opposition batsmen with his bowling up-front and at the death, claiming 18 wickets in just 9 innings, at an average just over 20.

Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar has now come forward and stated that the duo were the standout performers in the World Cup for India, and showered praise on them for their performances.

“Everyone played their part to be honest but if I had to pick then it has to be Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, they were fantastic,” Sachin told his official app, 100 MB.

Sachin also hailed Rohit for the patience shown and the value he put on his wicket, which eventually helped him finish as the highest run-getter of the tournament. Meanwhile, he praised Bumrah for his dominance over the batsmen, which saw no batsmen even attempting to go after his bowling.

“Rohit was brilliant in the entire tournament; he also scored a record 5 hundreds in the World Cup. The most impressive thing about his batting was that he understood the value of his wicket,” Sachin said.

“Bumrah was terrific throughout the tournament. No one actually could get on top of him,” he added.

Reflecting on India's performance in the World Cup, Sachin praised the consistency shown by the Men in Blue from top to bottom, which saw each and every player chipping in with valuable contributions, with both bat and ball. Sachin however admitted that the lower middle-order did not live up to the standards, but said that the outstanding performance of the bowlers made up for the failure of the lower middle-order.

“India lost only one match in the group stage, which was great. The openers continued to give good starts and middle-order too chipped in when needed. Whenever provided with a good launch pad the likes of Pandya and Pant pushed India to a good total," Sachin said of India's performance.

"Yes, the lower middle did not perform that well but they were well backed up by the bowlers. Our bowling was very good barring one or two games,” the little master concluded.
