The selection of Indian team for the tour of West Indies, starting in Florida on August 3, has been postponed, primarily because the fitness reports of players will only be available on Saturday. The BCCI selection committee, headed by MSK Prasad, will now meet on July 20 or 21, in Mumbai.

Team India, who were eliminated from the World Cup in a close encounter against eventual runner-up New Zealand, are all set to kick start their process of rejuvenation in the Carribean. India are scheduled to play three each of T20Is, ODIs and Tests against West Indies between August 3 and September 3.Ā

The meeting to select the squad for all three formats was scheduled for July 19, Friday. Indian captain Virat Kohli had arrived in India from London, along with his wife Anushka Sharma, on Thursday. However, as the players' fitness reports were not available, the meetingĀ has been postponed.Ā

"The BCCI's cricket operations team needs to apprise the chairman of the availability of the captain for the meeting. The fitness reports of the players will be available on Saturday evening," a senior BCCI functionary told PTI.

The meeting is set to have as its agenda several topics that have come up as the World Cup progressed, and especially after Indiaā€™s semi-final loss. Kohliā€™s captaincy in all three formats seems to be one matter that has been resolved ahead of the meeting. It is understood that Hardik Pandya will be given time off to rest his over-strained back, and Jasprit Bumrah will be relieved of ODI duties. However, the future of ex-skipper MS Dhoni still hangs in the balance, and is surely the most looked upon of all the topics.Ā

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators have confirmed that the senior selection committee meeting will be convened by the chief selector and not by the BCCI secretary.

"The Committee of Administrators have been informed that the practice of the Hon. Secretary convening and attending selection committee meetings has continued even after the New BCCI Constitution has become effective," the CoA stated, as quoted by PTI.

For overseas tours, the meetings will be convened by the administrative manager, stated a fresh set of directives from the CoA.

"Further, it is learnt that the selection committees continue to address emails to Hon. Secretary to seek his approval in relation to any change or replacement in the team(s). Similarly, the selection committees continue to address emails to the Hon. Secretary seeking his approval on travel arrangements and posting for selectors to watch and attend cricket matches," it wrote.
