Euro T20 Slam | Rashid Khan picked as marquee player for Rotterdam Rhinos

In the players’ draft for the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 Slam, Rashid Khan was picked as marquee player by Rotterdam Rhinos while Eoin Morgan will represent Dublin Chiefs along with Babar Azam. Meanwhile, Belfast Titans got Shahid Afridi and Glasgow Giants had Brendon McCullum and Dale Steyn.

The draft process for the inaugural Euro T20 Slam happened in London on Friday and several prominent current and former players were drafted into the six teams that will make up the squads. Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands have two teams each on their home base and each team have been assigned one designated 'icon player' and one 'marquee player'. Although the list of the icon and marquee players had been set beforehand, yesterday, the draft revealed the teams they would represent.

Among the big signings, Amsterdam Knights got Shane Watson as the icon player and Imran Tahir as their marquee player while Belfast Titans acquired the services of Shahid Afridi and JP Duminy. Dublin Chiefs managed to secure the local icon and English skipper Eoin Morgan as the icon player while Pakistan No.3 Babar Azam will be the marquee player of the team. Edinburgh Rocks got Martin Guptill and Chris Lynn, Glasgow Giants had Brendon McCullum and Dale Steyn, while Rotterdam Rhinos had Rashid Khan and Luke Ronchi.

While Ben Cutting became the first player to be picked, by Knights, Mohammad Amir, Fakhar Zaman, Ravi Bopara and Matt Henry were picked in the first two rounds. Shaheen Afridi was the first pick in the third round which had also the likes of Colin Ingram, Tymal Mills and Hasan Ali.

Apart from the players, Anil Kumble has also been one of the board members on the league's advisory committee and stated that the league is an encouraging sign for the growth of cricket worldwide.

"It is encouraging to see the growth of cricket worldwide, and I am excited to witness teams from Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland competing against each other," Kumble said. "It will be a great opportunity for local talent to rub shoulders with some of the best cricketing talent worldwide."

The matches will take place in three cities - Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Dublin - and the competition will run from August 30 to September 22.
