KL Rahul has stated that people will talk about technique when the runs are not coming for a player, referring to criticism that came his way during his poor run in Tests. The batsman had scored only 468 runs in as many as 22 innings in 2018 while scoring just one century and half century each.

2018 saw him churn out a terrible form in Tests as the batsman managed to hit a century in the final Tests of the horrendous England tour but barring that, he didn't have much to show. Many analysts came to the conclusion that Rahul was stuck in the crease and his head position was not ideal, however, the batsman dismissed all such discussions.

ā€œI think the head position, the technique, looks good when you are scoring runs. Letā€™s face it. Not doing well is more to do with your thinking. You obviously have good enough technique to reach the highest level. The technique is there. When you donā€™t get runs, itā€™s obvious people will talk about the technique. I donā€™t read much into that, I donā€™t go too deep into the technique. When you get runs, everything looks good,ā€ he said in an interview, reported Indian Express.

Rahul had made his debut for India in theĀ thirdĀ Test in Australia in December 2014 and had a bad outing, as he had scored four runs in total in two innings. He had earlier said that his self-belief was broken after that match but he did follow it up with a cracking century in his next game to draw the match. The Karnataka batsman further opened up about the same.

ā€œIt happens in everybodyā€™s career when youā€™re not scoring runs. There will be a bad patch. I knew my game hasnā€™t changed, am not a different player, am not a bad person. I didnā€™t want to connect every bad performance to everything. I knew it was not my time, sometimes I was getting good balls. Sometimes I played bad shots, that you do when you are out of form.

"I was very calm in my head and still very positive. I didnā€™t want to back away from this challenge or sit in the room and say, ā€˜Oh god, I donā€™t want to face this bowler, or I hope to get 30-40 runs and save my position.ā€™ I was never in that mindset, I was always positive. Thatā€™s the person Iā€™m, I know Iā€™m not going to win always. When you go through bad form, you go through bad form. Just accept it and you learn so much about it. You take the positives from it,ā€ shared the 27-year-old.

Rahul, along with Hardik Pandya, was banned from international cricket for a while after his comments at a chat show with Karan Johar. The duo did not fall down after the incident and made a roaring comeback at the Indian Premier League. The Kings XI Punjab batsman credited India ā€˜Aā€™ coach Rahul Dravid who helped him during his time off from international cricket.

ā€œWe did spend a lot of time with Dravid in the India A camp and India A games. I worked with him and went back to work on my basics. When you go off international cricket and have had a bad patch, you are motivated to come back to the team automatically. You are hungry in your approach. I spoke to Rahul bhai, my coaches, and I used the time off from international cricket. I knew I will bounce back stronger, I kept faith in myself. Am very happy and grateful about whatever happened in my life. Success, failure, you need to accept everything,ā€ expressed the right-hander.

Rahul further went on to say that the incident will not change him but he will learn from his mistakes.

"Nothing will change me. As I said, in life, in cricket, you make mistakes. You have bad days, you learn from them and try to be a better person. I never doubted myself, my personality, never doubted who Iā€™m. My friends, my family were strong with me. I was strong in my head, I got through it and am happy to be back and enjoying my cricket,ā€ he concluded.
