Former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has been of the opinion that if MS Dhoni wearing an insignia is against the rules and protocols of the game, then he should remove them. However, Dhoni has got a supporter in the form of Indian legend Milkha Singh, who called it “patriotic”.

MS Dhoni’s on-field shenanigans, which consisted of him wearing gloves with the “Balidaan” badge on it during their World Cup opening match against South Africa, has created a massive furore with sporting fraternity divided on it.

However, while his action has been justified by stating that because he was conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment in 2011 that led him to undergo basic Para Special Forces training in 2015 making him eligible to wear it, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has objected to it as it went against the sporting protocol.

While ICC has been slammed by many on social media for their intervention, Bhutia has surprisingly come to support  the world body stating that Dhoni should “respect the sport first keeping aside everything else.”

“A player should go by the rules and regulations. If it’s against that, then Dhoni will have to remove it,” said Bhutia, reported CNN-News18.

However, Dhoni has had a major following in the nation with visuals of him paying tribute to the army forces and he has a large number of people supporting him as well. Amongst them was India legend Milkha Singh.

“He did the right thing,” said Singh, reported CNN-News18.
