Shikhar Dhawan would continue to recover in the India camp in England as the management has decided to take a call only after they have assessed the thumb injury thoroughly. The southpaw, who scored a century in India’s match against Australian on Sunday, underwent scans in Leeds.

Tuesday was tumultous for the Indian cricket team currently in England for the World Cup. Amidst the uncertainty of Dhawan missing out for three weeks with a thumb injury, multiple reports flooded in stating that the management was looking to call in replacements with the names of Rishabh Pant and Ambati Rayudu doing the rounds.

However, the BCCI has now confirmed that the player won’t be replaced in haste as the management has decided to further assess his condition. "Team India opening batsman Mr Shikhar Dhawan is presently under the observation of the BCCI medical team. The team management has decided that Mr Dhawan will continue to be in England and his progress will be monitored," the BCCI confirmed on Twitter..

"Mr Dhawan sustained an injury on the back of his left hand in the region between the index finger and thumb during the CWC 2019 league match against Australia," it was further mentioned as per a report on Cricbuzz.

The incident took place when Dhawan was facing Nathan Coulter-Nile and couldn’t deal with a bouncer. He was seen getting treatment from team physio Patrick Farhart and couldn’t come out to field in the second innings. He was later spotted in the dressing room with an ice pack over his thumb.

It was also reported that Farhart and Dhawan had updated captain Virat Kohli, head coach Ravi Shastri, batting coach Sanjay Bangar and bowling coach Bharat Arun about the injury situation, following which the decision to retain him was taken.
