Aaron Finch reckons that the weather conditions across the United Kingdom over the course of this week will play a huge part at the ongoing ICC World Cup. The Australian skipper added that Pakistan will prove to be tricky opponents especially after their impressive win against hosts England.
Australia succumbed to their first defeat at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 against a determined Indian side. Riding on the back of a Shikhar Dhawan century, the Indians successfully defended their total of 352 as the Aussies fell short of the target by 36 runs at the Oval on Sunday.
Rain has played spoilsport on multiple occasions at the ongoing World Cup with three matches already being called off due to rain. Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka was washed out on Friday before the clash between South Africa and the Windies was abandoned after less than eight overs play on Monday. Finch reckons that weather conditions will play a major role in the grand scheme of things at the global showpiece.
“I think it might play a huge part in the next few days. Next week it starts fine and looks good across the country for the remainder of the tournament.
“So it’s important that you get early wins on the board because you don’t want to be on the wrong end of a couple of washouts that might leave you just outside that top four,” Finch told reporters on Tuesday as per AFP reports.
There is rain predicted in the Taunton area on Wednesday and Finch conceded that luck with the weather could play a role in who makes the semi-finals from the 10-team group stage. The Australian skipper revealed that his side will not take Sarfraz Ahmed & Co. lightly if the match does take place.
“I think Pakistan are obviously a very dangerous side. We’ve seen consistently throughout, especially ICC tournaments, that they win a lot of games and they get themselves in a position to win the tournament.
“They had a great Champions Trophy. So regardless of what kind of form Pakistan go in with, they’re always incredibly dangerous,” Finch added.
