Kapil Dev has stated that India have enough firepower and depth in their squad despite Shikhar Dhawan’s injury and can certainly do well in the future games. However, the 1983 World Cup-winning skipper has added that Dhawan was a big player for India and the team will miss him for sure.

Dhawan picked up a hairline fracture on his left thumb and will miss India’s next three matches. Although the team has decided to keep him in the team and monitor his progress, it has come as a huge blow to the team as Dhawan is one of the most important cogs in India’s wheel. Kapil Dev has stated that India will miss Dhawan but the team has enough firepower in their ranks to cover that up.

"Shikhar is a big player for India. He is a matchwinner and the team will miss him. But whosoever replaces him will have to step up and make sure that Shikhar's absence isn't felt. India has enough firepower and depth in its squad,” Kapil said in an event in Delhi, reported PTI.

In Dhawan’s absence, India will take on Pakistan on Sunday in Manchester and the game will be as important for both teams as far as the two points are concerned, as it will be for them the bragging rights. Kapil, however, is confident that India will secure two points because of the way they are playing now.

"The Indian team will definitely win against Pakistan because they are playing good cricket at the moment. When I played, Pakistan used to be the favourites but now India is a much better side and therefore they deservedly are the favourites."

While Hardik Pandya is growing in stature day by day and added an X-factor to the Indian team, the comparison with the former all-rounder is more than ever. However, the legendary all-rounder dismissed the claims and said that people should leave Pandya alone and let him prosper.

"We shouldn't compare Hardik Pandya with me. You should let him play and I hope he performs better than me. He is a highly talented cricketer and if he continues to perform the way he performed in the last match (against Australia) there will be no need for comparison."
