Eoin Morgan has stated that Jofra Archer will handle playing for England against the Windies at the Rose Bowl today and also reckoned that it will be a different challenge. Archer was born in Barbados but shifted to England and it is the first time that he will be facing his birth nation.

Jofra Archer was born in Barbados and even played for West Indies Under-19 but shifted to Sussex. He went on to make his debut for England in May 2019 and will play against the Windies for the first time ever. The England skipper Eoin Morgan himself played 23 ODIs for Ireland before making a shift to his current nation and is familiar with such a feeling. The skipper reckoned that Archer will feel different but will also handle it well.

“Jofra has been very consistent over a long period of time, since he came to Sussex. It is great he is in an England shirt. It does feel different the first time you play against a side you could have played for. I am sure he will handle it,” Morgan said at the pre-match press conference on Thursday, reported PTI.

“I did not find it difficult (against Ireland for the first time). It was a different challenge, rather than a difficult one,” he added.

England have had their fair share of injuries in this World Cup so far. Vice-captain Jos Buttler felt pain in his hip in the encounter against Bangladesh on Saturday but has recovered well to feature in today’s game. Pacer Mark Wood also felt discomfort in his left ankle in the same game, where he also recorded the tournament’s fastest delivery of 153 kmph, and is expected to take a fitness test today, shared the skipper.

“Jos is fully fit. Mark Wood will have a fitness test in the morning, nothing too serious from Cardiff. His ankle is swollen. He has not bowled for two days so we will see how he is, if he is sore then we may not take the risk,” expressed the 32-year-old.

The skipper also revealed that all-rounder Moeen Ali will also be available following the birth of his daughter Haadiya.

“Mo’s wife gave birth to a baby girl, all healthy and well, so it is great to see him back. We might go with four seamers or two spinners, whichever is more effective,” Morgan signed off.
