Harsha Bhogle lashed out at the hatred-fueled advertisements being broadcasted in India and Pakistan as he asked both nations to show mutual respect. The Virat Kohli-led India take on archrivals Pakistan in their fourth match of the ICC World Cup 2019 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
The India - Pakistan match are being watched by audiences all across the globe and will garner huge attention from fans in England. However, in the build-up to the much-awaited tie between the two rival nations, there were a lot of hateful advertisements that aired which received major criticism on social media platforms.
Renowned journalist and commentator, Harsha Bhogle gave his opinion on the issue where he hit out at such commercials and demanded more mutual respect between both countries.Â
"I've said in the past that you can't divorce a cricket match from the political reality but a sport teaches you respect and that's what I'd like to see a little more. Try your best to win, shake hands, that's how cricket is supposed to be played," Bhogle said on a recent talk show with Cricbuzz.
Former India batsman, Robin Uthappa added that there was no reason to disseminate hate. The KKR cricketer further said that Indian fans should urge the team to win the World Cup rather than just one match.Â
"There is no reason to spew hate. Sport gives you an opportunity to build bridges. It sounds traditional, it sounds old-fashioned but it is something we should work towards. Hopefully, these matches are not used as pawns for chaos. People should be more concerned with India winning the world cup and not just India winning one game in the world cup," Uthappa added.
