After losing Shikhar Dhawan for the rest of the tournament, the Indian camp is keenly awaiting a fitness update on their strike bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The team’s strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu said that team physio Patrick Farhart is working closely with injured Bhuvneshwar.

With two positive performances against South Africa and Australia, Bhuvneshwar Kumar looked like his old self running in to bowl against Pakistan. At the early stages, he had set-up the Pakistani opener Imam Ul-Haq quite beautifully. Just then, he felt a niggle in his hamstring and soon, he was off the field without completing his third over.

Although the incoming Vijay Shankar struck gold with his first ball to remove Imam and Kuldeep and co. set up a handsome win for India, all eyes were on Virat Kohli for an update on his strike bowler’s fitness.

"Slight niggle for Bhuvi, he slipped on one of the footmarks. He's out for two, maybe three games, but he should come back for us at some stage during this tournament," Kohli said during the post-match ceremony.

But, India were dealt with a major blow on Wednesday as BCCI confirmed that opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out for the rest of the World Cup. After breaking his thumb in the match against Australia, it seemed like Shikhar might recover in time. Rishabh Pant, who had already been flown in to England, was named as his replacement in the squad.

Meanwhile, the Indian team and its supporters are eagerly awaiting an update on Bhuvi. Shankar Basu said that Bhuvi was being assessed closely by team physio Farhart and his team.

"Our physiotherapists are looking after Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the moment and we will know the status very shortly," Basu was quoted as saying by IANS.
