In cricket, half chances must be converted into opportunities and one cannot afford to give a top-order batsman a reprieve as more often than not he will make it count. Sabbir Rahman’s ordinary effort at mid-on gave a struggling David Warner life as he was at least 13 metres away from the crease.

After a brisk start, Australia looked good for a massive total on the board while batting first. Bangladesh, on the other hand, got rid of Aaron Finch and were desperately looking for another wicket. Usman Khawaja was elevated in the batting order and was trying to build a steady partnership alongside David Warner.

On the third delivery of the 25th over, Khawaja drove a ball on the full towards mid-on, where Sabbir Rahman was stationed, and charged for a single. Warner was a little late to respond as he was ball watching, which game enough time for Rahman to collect the leather and throw it to the keeper’s end, but a fumble and a wayward throw only gave the southpaw a priceless reprieve. Had this been a half-decent effort, Warner would have certainly been a goner.

The Australian opener made Bangladesh pay for it with an emphatic 150 as Australia look all set for a total of 270 plus.
