Ravichandran Ashwin is of the opinion that playing in numerous high-pressure situations in the IPL over the years has done the Indian team a world of good. Ashwin, who has more than 500 international wickets for India, will be in England shortly to play County cricket for Nottinghamshire.

The ability to remain ice-cool in tense situations is often the hallmark that separates the best from the good. Ashwin points to this ability among the Indian players to conclude why they are the standout team in the tournament so far. Ashwin says this experience comes from many of the similar scenarios these players deal with in the Indian Premier League.

"IPL is a tournament where the players have to deal with extreme scrutiny day in day out. The Indian players learn to handle pressure way better than cricketers from other nations and that becomes very important at crucial stages of the game," Ashwin was quoted as saying by TOI.

As things are going very well for the Indian side, who remain unbeaten in the World Cup after five games, Ashwin doesn’t feel like there is an urgent need to make changes to the lineup. When asked about whether his former spin-partner Ravindra Jadeja should be included in the playing XI, he said, "I am not part of the team but I feel stability is the most important thing. If the team is doing well, there's no need for a change, unless there's an injury.”

The off-spinner is all set to play in County season for Nottinghamshire and said that he doesn’t feel like he’s missing out on much with the World Cup.

“Anybody would have liked to be part of the World Cup team, but I think I am in a great space game-wise and I have zero expectations about selection," Ashwin said.

Although having been consistently left out of the ODI squad to make way for wrist-spinning duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, Ashwin does not feel that it is the end of the road for him or other finger-spinners.

“It's a myth that finger-spinners aren't effective in the shorter version. There are many finger-spinners doing well across the world and as for me, I believe I am still one of the best in the business," the Tamil Nadu spinner noted.
