Bangladesh suffered a huge blow as their experienced campaigner Mahmudullah has suffered a tear in his calf during the encounter against Afghanistan. Bangladesh’s hopes of making it to the semi-finals are still alive if they manage to win all the remaining games and other results go their way.

Bangladesh registered an emphatic win against Afghanistan on Monday and were just gaining momentum. They won a crucial encounter against West Indies but lost the game against Australia. They came out hard against Afghanistan but suffered a huge blow after Mahmudullah was injured while batting. There are chances of the elegant right-handed batsman of missing the high-voltage game against India on July 2. Mahmudullah sustained a calf injury while sneaking a run and needed some medical attention.

He returned to bat and scored 27 runs but did not take part in the rest of the game. Mahmudllah was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent a scan and the reports revealed that he had suffered a grade one tear. Bangladesh physio Thihan Chandramohan confirmed Mahmudullah’s injury and also spoke about his availability for the next game.

"Mahmudullah has sustained a low-grade calf injury. We will monitor his progress over the next few days with regards to his availability for the next World Cup match,'' said Thihan Chandramohan, reported Cricbuzz.

Bangladesh are in a need to win all the games in order to make it to the semi-finals and would need the experience of Mahmudullah in the middle-order.
