Ashish Nehra is of the opinion that Mohammed Shami is going to be a big asset for the Indian team in near future. The former left-arm pacer has also added that Shami has done well in Tests since the South Africa tour last year by bowling long spells and his fitness has been really impressive.

After his success in the longest format of cricket in Australia where India won the series, Shami is in a sensational form in 50-over cricket as well. Since the end of the Test series Down Under, the pacer has claimed 16 wickets in eight matches and has been pretty economical with his bowling as well. After winning games for India in Australia and New Zealand where India went without Jasprit Bumrah, Shami combined well with the Gujarat seamer in the first ODI in Hyderabad in the ongoing series against Australia. Shami ended up with 2/44 in 10 overs in that game.

Seeing the transformation in Shami’s bowling and fitness, Nehra has stated that the Bengal pacer will be a big asset for the Men in Blue.

“Mohammed Shami has been really impressive, not just in this series and today’s game but for the last year and year-and-half. From South Africa tour I would say. Test cricket, he bowled really well. Bowled long spells. His fitness has been really really impressive. He is going to be a big asset for India,” Nehra told CricketNext.

After his performance in the first ODI against the Aussies in Hyderabad, Shami has drawn praises from many including coach Ravi Shahstri and Virat Kohli for his accuracy and fitness.
