Vijay Dahiya thinks Shikhar Dhawanâs technique is not a âbig issueâ

With Shikhar Dhawan going through a bad patch, Vijay Dahiya has opined that the left-handerâs technique is not a big issue in limited-overs cricket. On the other hand, Deep Dasgupta has asserted that Dhawan was confused in Nagpur as he got out to Glenn Maxwell after getting set.
Dhawanâs form at the top of the batting order is now becoming a cause of concern as the Delhi batsman has struggled to muster big scores at the top of the order. Not only in the ongoing home series against the Aussies, but Dhawan is struggling to score runs at the top of the Indian batting order since October last year as he has struck only three fifties after the Asia Cup, where he was the top run-scorer in the UAE.
Dahiya, who was Dhawanâs skipper and coach in the Delhi side, has said that the openerâs technique is not a big issue.

"What he was trying to do was to score quickly and that's what happened against Maxwell. He probably felt that since Maxwell is a part-time, he can score quickly and that's why played that pull shot. You will only feel the pressure when someone pushes you. It is very important to know how your mind works in those situations.â
Even India wicketkeeper-turned commentator Dasgupta has underlined the fact that mindset is a major issue for the opener, who has scored 0 and 21 in the first two ODIs in ongoing series against Australia. Dasgupta also explained the way Dhawan got out after getting well set at the crease in the second ODI in Nagpur.Â
"Mindset is an issue as Dhawan has always found ways to score runs, working around his technique. He was set in Nagpur and he could have easily played it to either long-off or long-on for a single. This happens when you are a bit confused. With Shikhar, if he plays that expansive cover drive with a big front-foot stride inside the first two overs, you know that he is in good touch," Dasgupta told PTI.
