It has been a very MS Dhoni thing to accurately predict the batsman's intention by standing behind the stumps which has immensely helped the spinners. Virat Kohli took a leaf out of his predecessor's book so as to help Kedar Jadhav hitting a four by predicting Adam Zampa’s short ball beforehand.

The Indian skipper has made it a habit of overtaking his previous centuries as far as the stroke-making is concerned. His effortless drives and the purposeful fluidity from the very first over of the match made his Ranchi century a special one, even though it came in a losing cause. While he shone through, the way he hand-held other batsmen was a special sight to savour and Jadhav took the maximum benefit of that.

With Adam Zampa threatening with his full balls, Indian batsmen were finding it hard to take a risk against him and going down the track to hit him from the half-volley was not the most ideal judgement. Jadhav was finding it hard to deflect the balls from their way and Kohli, who was standing at the non-striker’s end, sensed that in right time.

In the 25th over, the Indian skipper predicted that some of Zampa’s ball would remain short and asked Jadhav to stay patient. He was heard in stump mic saying, “Ye Piche bhi dega ball” which could be loosely translated to “Some balls would stay short as well”.

Accurately, on the penultimate delivery of the over, Zampa landed a delivery at short of good length position of the crease against which the Maharashtra batsman rocked back to pummel the ball to the wide of mid-wicket for a four.
