MS Dhoni

If it is Chepauk, trust MS Dhoni to thrill the crowd with some theatrics of his own and when the team is just rolling ahead, how could he not pull them out? Today, he waited for the DRS countdown clock to reach the last second so as to convert a simple LBW appeal to a catch dismissal.

It was one of those regular days in the IPL history that RCB, for all the talks of securing the bragging rights and coming out on top of Cauvery rivalry, faltered to muster enough steam to check CSK’s plans. The defending champions’ fortress Chepauk saw the ball turn a mile as RCB lost wickets in a manner that no one saw coming.

On the first ball of the 12th over, Imran Tahir bowled a googly on the pads to Navdeep Saini and when the Delhi boy came forward to press it down the ground, the ball suddenly bounced off. While the ball went to Shane Watson’s hands at slip upon impact, Tahir was confident that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps after hitting the pads. The umpire was not interested in the appeal, but Tahir had clearly seen something.

The leg-spinner requested MS Dhoni to go upstairs and while the CSK skipper seemed a bit hesitant in the beginning, he listened to the South African patiently. The DRS countdown clock was on and Dhoni, in his own style, played with time, only to give DRS sign on the 15th second. When the third umpire checked the replay, it got interesting as the UltraEdge suggested that the ball first hit the bat before hitting the pad.

The LBW was out of the equation and when the third umpire checked the catch, CSK fans went up in jubilation as Watson had clearly taken the catch safely. The appeal that was for an LBW turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the CSK as Saini had to go back to the pavilion by being dismissed by a catch.
