DC VS CSK | Player Ratings - Shikhar Dhawan half-century in vain as Delhi Capitals succumb to disappointing six-wicket loss

Shikhar Dhawan scored a half-century and Axar Dhawan bowled with an economy rate of 4, but that was not enough for Delhi Capitals to get the better of Chennai Super Kings. The game should have been viewed in an introspective manner by the Delhi franchise for the change in fortune in the future.

Prithvi Shaw (4/10): The slowness of the surface, most of the times, plays to the batsmanā€™s head and even when it doesnā€™t come off, they play to the wrong line. Shaw was pretty good in understanding that and went to 24 runs off 15 balls before Chahar took the pace off completely in the last second, leaving Shaw nowhere to go after a premeditated smash attempt. Quite unfortunate in my opinion.Ā

Shikhar Dhawan (7.5/10): He might have taken a donkeyā€™s years to open his arms, but Dhawan provided the perfect base to the middle-order to score at a brisk pace. That was important in the context that the wicket was slow and didnā€™t allow him to score runs fast in the powerplay. Of course, he could have accelerated a bit early and that was the only thing that could be held against him.

Shreyas Iyer (3/10): For the second consecutive game, Iyer failed to build on the start which put pressure on Rishabh Pant. It is a different thing that Dhawan managed to fill that role, but for the sake of team balance, Iyer has to perform because the entire winning structure is built on that hope.Ā

Colin Ingram (2/10): After a brave innings in the season opener for the franchise, Ingram fell to a Bravo slower ball today, despite whacking him in the Big Bash League a couple of months ago. The slowness of the surface got to him and understanding that, Bravo bowled even slower to put doubts on the South Africanā€™s head before deceiving him. Better judgement was expected from a batsmanā€™s of Ingramā€™s calibre and he clearly failed to deliver that today.

Rishabh Pant (7/10): When the Maverick met the Master, the battle was going to be an exciting one. In one of the most important face-offs in the league, Pant did his part but the lack of sustained momentum meant he was dismissed just like that. Nevermind he had a strike rate of 192.31, but the timing of the wicket took his points further down. He outshone Dhoni ā€œwicket kepeecheā€ though.

Keemo Paul (5/10): The 2016 U-19 star for the Windies colts, Keemo Paul had another forgettable outing in the IPL, being castled by Ravindra Jadeja by playing inside the line against a sharp turning delivery by Ravindra Jadeja. Better application could have helped him open the account, but he did nail down the yorkers perfectly to have some sort of bowling redemption.

Axar Patel (8/10): What a performance. The wicket was a bit tricky, but Delhiā€™s dew made up for it in the latter stages of the game. In such a situation, Axar gave away only 16 runs in four overs and donā€™t get me wrong, it was a terrific performance which could have been a match-winning one in other situations.Ā

Rahul Tewatia (4/10): After smashing Jasprit Bumrah to the stars, Rahul Tewatia became a cult hero for me the other night and it is a shame that we didnā€™t see him bat today. The spinner gave away 20 runs in two overs, but the presence of another five proper bowlers meant he didnā€™t get a crack at redemption.

Amit Mishra (6.5/10): While his selection was somehow illogical due to the presence of Sandeep Lamichhane in the squad, Mishra just decided to reply back in his own style by dismissing both dangerous-looking batsmen Shane Watson and Suresh Raina. While that didnā€™t have any bearing to the eventual result, there is only so much that he could do.

Kagiso Rabada (7/10): The way Rabada bowled that final over, no matter the result, just goes on to prove that why he is celebrated so early in his career. There was a sheer nonchalance to the way he was approaching the deliveries and while that qualifies for a solid performance alone, I will give one more point to him for having that smiling discussion with Shane Watson after the match despite having a moment of heated discussion in the middle.

Ishant Sharma (6/10): Might have been a comparatively worse performance than the first one, but letā€™s applaud the guyā€™s persistence in the last wind of his career. He dived around and bowled with all his heart to showcase that the first match performance was not a fluke by any means. Of course, he went for runs, but made sure that another good performance was just around the corner.
