The umpires failed to spot Lasith Malinga's no-ball which resulted in Mumbai Indians winning the match. As a result of this, Virat Kohli slammed the umpires in his post-match interview. Cricketing legends picked up their phones and voiced their opinions on Twitter about the quality of umpiring.
There is your solution!
Technology should be used much more often in cricket ... so many front foot no-balls missed all the time in all formats and only checked on dismissal. Should be as simple as 3rd umpire telling the umpire through ear piece that a no ball has been bowled.— Faf Du Plessis (@faf1307) March 28, 2019
The sad truth!
In the world of technology that we live in, a NO BALL like that should NOT happen!— Kevin Pietersen🦏 (@KP24) March 28, 2019
End Of Story!
Sigh! The things that you have to do for a win!
It would have been better if Shivam Dube was out on the last ball, seems like that is the only way umpires would have checked the #noball— Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) March 28, 2019
Creating new employment opportunities! You are a genius Deano!
Sorry.. but umpires are missing too many no balls these days.. time for another umpire on the ground to call no balls! #fedup— Dean Jones (@ProfDeano) March 28, 2019
A great match tainted by this careless incident!
High quality cricket tonight. Wow!— Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) March 28, 2019
Yuvi, Hardik, Chahal, Umesh, Virat, AB, Bumrah & Malinga all taking the game to great heights, before it all came crashing down with that last ball no ball miss. Unforgivable mistake.#VIVOIPL2019 #RCBvMI
Irfan Pathan fuming!
Oh that no ball...— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) March 28, 2019
Michael Vaughan mirrored his countryman KP's thought!
Harsha Bhogle enjoyed the match!
And then went on to give his thoughts about the incident!
If an umpire calls a no-ball that isn't one, it cannot be overturned. If he doesn't call a no-ball and there is a wicket, DRS can correct it. And so, more umpires are erring on the side of not calling no-balls.— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) March 28, 2019
Since so many are bringing this up, there is currently no use of technology to help the umpire with a no-ball. It has been widely discussed but not implemented.— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) March 28, 2019
This incident will hasten the process of checking the line on every ball bowled. Before the next ball is bowled, the 3rd umpire checks the legality of the previous one. Won't hold up play, there are locked off cameras anyway, will only take a few secs while normal activity is on.— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) March 28, 2019
