Steve Smith, who will return to Australia today, has stated that he is throwing in at 70-80 per cent now and would be back to 100% in a couple of weeks. The former Australian captain has also added that his elbow injury rehab, after undergoing a major operation in last January, is at the full flow.
Ajinkya Rahane’s underperformance with the bat and the team’s regular failure to secure a win resulted in Rajasthan Royals changing the leadership and handed their former skipper Steve Smith the duty to lead the side. Although Smith managed to script a mini turn-around for the team, it was not enough as Rajasthan is closing on to secure the seventh spot on the side. That was particularly admirable as Smith had undergone a major operation last January.
Talking about his injury that saw him not taking part in the Bangladesh Premier League, Smith has said that he is throwing in at 70-80 per cent now and he will be back to 100% in a couple of weeks.
“All good, I just landed on it quite heavily, more heavily than I had landed on it previously. I am throwing at probably 70 or 80 per cent. A couple of weeks and I should be back to throwing at 100 per cent,” he said, adding that his elbow rehab was “going really well,” Smith said, reported Scroll.
“From the surgery I have still got some scar tissue and stuff in there and just the impact of the landing affected it a little bit, but there is nothing wrong with it, all good,” Cricket Australia’s official website reported him saying.
Smith and Warner were last month selected in Australia’s World Cup squad following their year-long bans for ball-tampering and although Smith will not lead the squad, he will have a major role to play, alongside Warner.
