Riyan Parag played a heroic knock to ensure Royals had a respectable total on the board while Ish Sodhi kept his side alive by scalping three wickets. However, Delhi Capitals were too hot to handle and a disheartening batting collapse in a must-win game meant Royals are out of the race for playoffs.

Ajinkya Rahane (1/10): It’s almost like the burden of captaincy is getting the better of Ajinkya Rahane with the bat. After Smith’s departure, Rahane was reinstated as the skipper of Rajasthan Royals, but the elegant right-handed batsman once again floundered. In a must-win game, Rahane had a golden opportunity to silent his harshest critics and make a statement as the captain, but failed terribly, which has also been his story of this season,

Liam Livingstone (2.5/10): In the last two games, Livingstone raised hopes as an explosive batsman and didn’t let the absence of Jos Buttler really hurt the Royals side. Although he wasn’t that effective, he still got the job done for Royals at the top. After Rahane’s fall, Royals needed Livingstone to produce an emphatic innings but not everyone can soak in the pressure and come out in flying colours and the Englishman turned out to be no exception.

Sanju Samson (1.5/10): These are the situations that can chisel the path to the national side and Samson squandered a golden one here. He looked in good touch and needed to make his case stronger by belting some tough runs, but it wasn’t to be. While sneaking a single, Samson gifted his wicket away due to a huge mix-up with Mahipal Lomror. This was easily the biggest wicket for Royals after looking at the kind of form Samson has been in the last few games.

Mahipal Lomror (3/10): After being involved in Samson’s run out, though not his fault, Lomror intent looked dangerous but that fizzled out in no time. Handling the nerves play an important role for a debutant, no doubt he was under immense pressure, but got carried away after milking back-to-back boundaries.

Shreyas Gopal (6/10): Promoted up the batting-order, Shreyas Gopal did nothing of substance to justify the move. After wickets falling like ninepins at one end, Shreyas Gopal needed to stick around and ensure Royals got to a respectable total. In what turned out to be a battle between the leg-spinners, Amit Mishra outfoxed Gopal with his guile to inflict more damage on the Royals. However, Gopal had a magnificent run with the ball, bagging two wickets for 21, but another 20 runs to the existing target would have made the scenario totally different for both sides.

Riyan Parag (8/10): After watching his innings today, the only doubt fans might have would be surrounding his age. Is he really 17? The doubt stems out from the kind of composure and calmness Parag displayed when none of the Royals’ batsmen got going. After a sluggish start, Parag was quick enough to reassess the situation and put a huge price tag on his wicket. He ensured Royals played out their quota of 20 overs and scored an emphatic fifty under immense pressure. This is the kind of innings that helps a young gun get recognition and a few eyes are already set on Parag for now.

Stuart Binny (1/10): At 57 for 5, the task for Binny was quite simple - to hang on, but Mishra turned out to be too hot for him to handle. A golden duck for Binny only steered Royals in hot water and gave Mishra an opportunity to pick his third IPL hat-trick.

K Gowtham (6.5/10): Defending such a modest total was always going to be a challenge and needed early wickets. While Gowtham couldn’t chip away wickets but did well to keep things tight at his end. He was the most economical bowler for Royals, but the job would have certainly got a lot easier for them had Gowtham picked a wicket or two.

Varun Aaron (1/10): After a series of impactful performances, Varun Aaron fizzled out when it mattered the most for his side. There was help for the bowlers but Aaron’s erratic line and length cost Royals crucial runs. With the kind of form he has been in recent times, anyone would have expected Aaron to do better than what he eventually did.

Oshane Thomas (1.5/10): Royals were defending the kind of a total where they could not have afforded to step a foot wrong. They had only a handful of runs to fight for and Thomas’ solitary over, where Shikhar Dhawan milked runs, didn’t let him get another go.

Ish Sodhi (6.5/10): If there was any bowler who could have posed a massive threat on this surface, it had to be Ish Sodhi. He pulled things back magnificently by getting rid of Dhawan and Shaw in his first over, but Iyer’s counter-attack took the momentum away. Sodhi returned in his next spell to get rid of Ingram but the side just didn’t have enough rrns to contain an explosive Delhi batting.
