IPL 2019 | Ishant Sharma is a big factor in DC’s success this year, says Mohammad Kaif
Mohammad Kaif has said that Ishant Sharma’s success with the ball has played a key role for Delhi Capitals in the IPL this season. Ishant’s IPL chronicle is brimmed with ups and downs but the lanky pacer has looked a different bowler this season, picking 10 wickets at an economy of 7.65.
Ishant Sharma had a prolific outing in their last group stage encounter against Rajasthan Royals where he picked three wickets to steer his side to a commanding position. Ishant was in good rhythm in the Test series against Australia, South Africa and England. Delhi Capitals assistant coach Mohammad Kaif has said that investing in Ishant’s recent form has reaped fruitful results for the side.
"Ishant is a big factor in our success this year. His IPL career has been full of ups and downs. But his recent form in Test matches in Australia, South Africa and England was tremendous. That's why we were sure that we wanted Ishant in our team," Kaif said, reported TOI.
Delhi Capitals have made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2012 and the coaching staff have played a key role behind the team’s success. Under their watchful eyes, the budding players have done reasonably well and have justified the faith showed in them. Kaif further spoke about how they have identified a core group of players this season and did not let them feel insecure about their positions in the team.
"We have identified a core group of players who are going to win us matches and backing them to the hilt. For the coaching staff, one or two failures doesn't change the equation as far as the players are concerned. That's the standout factor for Delhi Capitals this season. We've decided that we aren't going to make many changes this year. Chopping and changing leads to insecurity in the squad. The players cannot express themselves and play with freedom and skill."
Delhi Capitals are currently sitting at the second spot on the points table and will be the team to watch out for in the playoffs.
