Younis Khan has rejected the offer for coaching Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team as Pakistan Cricket Board did not agree to his demand of also appointing him as the chief selector of the team. PCB wanted to replicate the success of India U-19 coach Rahul Dravid but their search continues.

Younis Khan, Pakistan’s highest run scorer in Tests, was offered the role of the head coach of the Pakistan Under-19 team. The former cricketer also wanted to take up the role of the chief selector of the colts but Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) declined his offer citing conflict of interest, thereby, Younis rejected the offer for the coach’s role as well.

The apex governing body was looking to emulate BCCI’s extremely successful decision of making a legendary player like Rahul Dravid the coach of the U-19 setup, but their search continues. A PCB official privy to the discussion had conveyed the news.

“The idea was to have a high-profile cricketer work with the junior players on long-term basis instead of the old practice of having lesser known names attached to the Pakistan under-19 side,” said the official from Karachi, reported PTI.

“At the moment, it appears that Younis will not be working for the PCB as he has made it clear he wants total independence to work and get results with the junior team,” the official added.
