IPL 2019 | Shane Watson batted with a bleeding leg in the final against Mumbai Indians

Chennai Super Kings opener Shane Watson batted with a cut on his knee in the final, which he suffered earlier in the innings while diving to make his ground. His teammate Harbhajan Singh, in a post on his official Instagram handle, revealed that Watson had to undergo six stitches after the game.

Shane Watson played a fighting knock of 80 runs off 60 balls to keep CSK’s hopes alive in the final against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Watson made the most of his reprieves and single-handedly rescued CSK’s innings, but couldn’t finish it as he was run-out on the fourth delivery of the last over. CSK lost the game by a whisker, but Watson’s heroic innings was the highlight of the game.

Later, Watson’s teammate Harbhajan Singh revealed that the Australian opener suffered a cut on his knee when he dived earlier in the innings to save his wicket. Watson had to undergo six stitches in order to conceal the wound but didn’t let the injury hamper his performance in the final.

Watson suffered the injury in the third over and Harbhajan later revealed that the batsman batted with immense pain as the blood stains are clearly visible in the image shared by the off-spinner. Watson smashed eight boundaries and four sixes for his 80 but was unfortunate to have been ended on the losing side.

Harbhajan shared the image on his official Instagram handle with a caption that reads: “Respect brother ✊ what a LEGEND @srwatson33 given sweat, blood and everything for the team.. INSPIRING."
