Australian skipper Steve Smith has stated that everything is in place to protect the pair of Steve Smith and David Warner in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. Smith and Warner returned to the national side after serving their one-year ban for being involved in the ball-tampering scandal.
Australia are all set to defend their World Cup title in the upcoming tournament with Aaron Finch leading the side. There have been a few concerns raised in the recent past regarding the players, especially Smith and Warner, being on the receiving end of the crowd taunts during the World Cup and the Ashes that follows.
However, Aaron Finch has stated that the security measures are in place and both Smith and Warner would be able to focus on their game. Smith and Warner received a warm welcome from the teammates on their return and will hold the key for Australia’s success in the quadrennial event.Â
“Since they’ve come back into the squad and the set-up the last couple of weeks they’ve been fantastic. They’ve contributed as much as they can and the morale has been unbelievable,” Finch said, reported AFP.Â
“Once the World Cup gets under way and you start getting into the tournament, probably the game against England, and then further on the Ashes there’s no doubt the crowd will start to play a bit of a part but that’s expected. No matter where you go the fans play a big part. No doubt personally and as an organisation they’ve got things in place for that, but how they’ve been in the run-up to the tournament has been fantastic.”
Smith did well in the unofficial warm-up game against Windies to score an emphatic 76 while chasing a target of 230 while Warner departed early for 12. Australia play England in their warm-up on Saturday at Southampton.
