Martin Guptill has admitted that New Zealand will have a tough outing in the upcoming ICC World Cup but added that they will do everything they can to win the trophy. Guptill, who has the highest score in a World Cup, has added that he hopes to replicate his form from the previous edition.

New Zealand enjoyed a comfortable six-wicket win over India in their first warm-up game ahead of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. The Kane Williamson-led outfit have always been tagged as ā€˜underdogsā€™ ahead of major international tournaments but proved their mettle in the 2015 edition when they finished as runners-up to Michael Clarkeā€™s Australia.

Kiwi opener Martin Guptill has admitted that his team will face a tough challenge at the upcoming showpiece event but backed his young and determined squad to give their all in the coming weeks.Ā

"I wouldn't say we are favourites to win the World Cup this time but we have named a strong squad. We know it's going to be a tough tournament. We are going to try our best, do everything we can to go and win the trophy we missed out on the last time," Guptill told PTI.

The 32-year-old batsman was one of the key members of New Zealandā€™s best-ever World Cup campaign when they reached their maiden final in the previous edition. The SRHĀ cricketer was the highest run-getter in the tournament with 547 runs at an average of 68.37. Guptill scored an unbeaten 237, which is the highest individual score at the WC, in the quarters against West Indies. The veteran batsman has added that he hopes to replicate the same form in the coming days.

"It was pretty cool to have the second highest score in the World Cup thus far. You always need that kind of confidence going to such a big tournament. I think if you are not confident maybe you probably shouldn't be turning out. I hope I can continue the form I had last time," Guptill added.
