Meghalaya all-rounder Abhay Negi, on Sunday, scripted history by scoring the fastest half-century in the tournament's history, off just 14 balls. Negi's cameo helped Meghalaya to a score of 207 as the Raj Biswa-led side withstood a spirited fight from Mizoram to win the match by 25 runs.

In the Syed Mustaq Ali trophy fixture between Meghalaya and Mizoram, history was made as Abhay Negi went on to score the fastest half century in the tournament's history. The Meghalaya all-rounder smashed 50 off just 14 balls as his hard-hitting cameo helped the team to a mammoth score of 207.

Born in Uttarakhand, the 27-year-old has played for Meghalaya and Tripura. He made his first-class debut against Arunachal Pradesh in November last year and his T20 debut against Bengal, a year and a half ago in Ranchi in January 2018.

Negi broke the record of former Karnataka man Robin Uthappa, who had previously held the record. Negi's historic innings at the Wankhede stadium was studded with two fours and six sixes, latching on to the Mizoram bowlers and pounding them relentlessly.

Negi, after his heroics with the bat, also contributed with the ball, as he went on to dismiss a well-set Taruwar Kohli, who was then batting on 90. The all-round performance from Negi helped Meghalaya seal a 25-run victory and the 27-year-old has put himself in the limelight at just the right time, a month ahead of the IPL auction.
