In recent years there has been tremendous growth in the quality of women’s cricket and also in its status in the society. The ICC has announced a 320% hike in the prize money of Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 while Cricket Australia has promised extra USD 600000 if the Aussie women defend the title.

The International Cricket Council has increased the prize money of Women’s T20 World Cup by 320% which ensures that the champions will take home a lucrative sum of USD 1 million. Following this announcement, Cricket Australia has announced that they will ensure parity in prize money of both the Men’s and Women’s team in the upcoming T20 World Cup which they will be hosting.

Currently, the prize money of the Men’s team stands at USD 1.6 million. To bridge the gap, CA has announced to raise the amount by USD  600000 if the defending champions succeed to capture the title in their den.

"We want to continue our commitment to equality by ensuring that any prize money earned by the Australian Women's team in the T20 World Cup is the same as what is on offer in the men's side of the tournament. This will include matching the prize money for the final, semi-finals, or group stage,” Cricbuzz quoted Cricket Australia's CEO Kevin Roberts saying so.

"The quality and skill level of the women's game continues to grow and that was witnessed firsthand last week with the team breaking another world record, winning 18 consecutive ODI matches.

"I am proud to say that cricket is the most lucrative team sport for women in Australia, with nationally contracted players receiving an average wage of more than $180,000 a year including domestic duties, while WBBL and state only contracted players earn an average of more than $55,000."

The announcement only goes on to prove how much Women’s cricket has evolved and it seems like they are finally coming out of the men’s shadows. The ICC has also confirmed a rise in revenue generation by Women’s cricket which is evident of its rising popularity across the globe.
