Veteran cricket stalwart Wasim Jaffer was extremely unhappy with the nature of pitches that were in offer in Vadodara for his team Vidarbha's Vijay Hazare matches. Vidarbha played all their nine group B games in Vadodara, winning just two, losing four with three matches ending as a no result.

Veteran Indian opener and former Mumbai batsman Wasim Jaffer has slammed the pitches in Vadodara that were offered for his current team Vidarbha's Vijay Hazare Trophy games. He took to Twitter to express his displeasure. He tweeted, "Absolutely unfit pitches to play in ‘List A’ matches in Vadodara."

Jaffer also later claimed the pitch at the Motibaug ground was "close to being dangerous." He was unhappy with the way the pitch was curated.

“Yes, specially the pitch at Motibaug is close to being dangerous. Two-three players were hit by a ball and nobody is scoring more than 150-160 runs," he said.

Jaffer also raised questions towards Baroda Cricket Association for wanting to host the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches despite having forecasts of heavy rains. He also compared the pitches in Baroda with that of good batting wickets in other parts of the country, deeming it 'sad' to see such a situation of pitches.

“Our tournament was (suppose) to start on 24th (September) but then there was rain for two weeks. So, I don’t know why the Baroda Cricket Association first of all took up (the job) to host Vijay Hazare,” Jaffer said.

“And the matches we are playing on, if you look at the scores, you will get to know what kind of wickets we are playing on. In Bengaluru, Jaipur and Dehradun they are getting good pitches to play (on), so its just feels very sad,” he signed off.

The newly appointed BCA Secretary Ajit Lele has said that the board has always been trying to change the condition of the pitches and will continue to do so to provide good fair cricket-wickets. He said that the heavy rains had a part to play in the pitches being poor.

“Because of the heavy rains that lashed the city the pitch was damaged. The rain continued till about a week ago, but despite that we are trying to improve the pitch condition,” Lele said.
